Gouki (Akuma) is a secret character, to unlock him you have to give something to the game, make a trade. There is a specific code to unlock him, a sequence of characters and buttons to press.
How to unlock Gouki in SSF2X
Alternatively, you can also use a specific code to unlock Gouki (Akuma) from the character select screen:
- Highlight Ryu and wait for 3 seconds.
- Move the cursor to T. Hawk and wait for another 3 seconds.
- Move the cursor to Guile and wait for 3 seconds.
- Move the cursor to Cammy and wait for 3 seconds.
- Move the cursor to Ryu and wait for 3 seconds.
- Press and hold the Start button, then press the three punch button at the same time to select Gouki (Akuma).
- Pro Tip: multiple taps in a row on the Start Button and All Three punch Buttons
- Pro Tip 2: After completing step 5, you have the option to move the cursor to any other character before proceeding to step 6. This means that if you make a mistake during the input, you can still select your favorite character instead of Gouki (Akuma)

To play against Gouki (Akuma) in Super Street Fighter II Turbo (or Super Street Fighter II X in Japan), you need to follow these steps:
- Play through the game and reach the final boss, M. Bison/Vega/Dictator.
- Defeat M. Bison without using a continue or losing a round.
- After defeating M. Bison, you will see a message that says “Here comes a new challenger.”
- Gouki (Akuma) will then appear, challenging you to a fight.
